Illuminated Road Delineation Studs/Markers

S Series: Solar Powered Raised Pavement Marker

S Series illuminated raised pavement markers are the same robust design as standard RPMs. They’re easy to install and can be applied as needed to enhance safety. They can also be mounted flush for snow and ice regions. The S Series Astucia solar powered pavement markers also provide guidance even when they are covered with light snow, ice or on sanded roadways.

There is more to the SAFETY design of roadway markers than the fact that the Astucia studs improve guidance. Recent research has documented that the very design of a roadway stud itself can dramatically impact safety. These concerns involve the materials they are made of, the ability of the adhesive to securely attach the marker to the pavement, and the dire consequences of the fact that roadways markers can be dislodged over time. The new question, when a marker does come lose or is impacted by a snowplow what risks does this markers pose to motorists? Here is a story that clearly demonstrates the inherent safety risk roadway markers pose. View with caution because the photos are graphic.

The new Astucia MKII S Series studs were designed to specifically meet these safety concerns and they now have received final type approval. These successful field trials certified the new design’s robustness. First and foremost the new MKII has an amazingly low mass of 140 grams (5 ounces) so if it should come lose the stud itself does not become a hazard. Second, Astucia created a hollowed out grid in the MKII base to increase the adhesives’ ability to grip the stud. For those installing them, they added finger grips indents on the side to better facilitate grip during application. Improved guidance with a device whose design improves safety and makes installation easier, too.

Hardwired 24/7 High Intensity In–Pavement Stud

Astucia invented and developed the concept of Intelligent Road Studs to improve road safety and make the best possible use of the road network. Tough, resilient and reliable, these fully programmable hardwired studs can be set as a constant light, to flash, or strobe as required.

The studs themselves protrude just 4mm from the surface of the roadway, yet can be seen clearly, in virtually all weather conditions, thanks to the 14 ultra-bright LEDs inside each stud. To make the system even more versatile, the products can be specified with red, amber, white or green LEDs so that they can be used on all parts of the highway.

Dynamic lane marking is just one of the many applications for these hardwired systems. When deployed as an alternative to conventional street lighting, the low voltage Intelligent Road Studs consume very little the power, are environmentally friendly, and cause minimal light pollution. What’s more is that the intense brightness of the 14 LEDs can be dimmed for night use while still remaining highly visible even under adverse weather conditions.

A key feature of the Astucia is the stud controllers are offered in either basic or highly configurable options.  The configurable controller provides full control over individual stud operation because each stud has its own IP address (duration, steady on, flashing or sequential strobe), advanced fault reporting and the ability to seamlessly interface with most existing traffic management communication protocols.

The high intensity in–pavement stud’s footprint is small and flush with the pavement making it bicycle, motorcycle and pedestrian friendly. The hardwired systems have a 10 plus year service life, too.
